Got home to find this doing the rounds, from Blag Hag. I have no words, but the idea is funny enough to reproduce:

Thislittle bit of supernatural thinkinghas been floating around theblogospheretoday:

"Many women who do not dress modestly … lead young men astray, corrupt their chastity and spread adultery in society, which (consequently) increases earthquakes,"HojatoleslamKazemSedighiwas quoted as saying by Iranian media.SedighiisTehran’sacting Friday prayer leader.

I have a modest proposal.

Sedighiclaims that not dressing modestly causes earthquakes. If so, we should be able to test this claim scientifically. You all remember thehomeopathy overdose?

Time for aBoobquake.

On Monday, April 26th, I will wear the most cleavage-showing shirt I own. Yes, the one usually reserved for a night on the town. I encourage other female skeptics to join me and embrace the supposed supernatural power of their breasts… With the power of our scandalous bodies combined, we should surely produce an earthquake.

Proud participant. Deliberately chose a blouse for this purpose (within reason, since I was also visiting a high-end kitchen design showroom). Am awaiting the final verdict, and am pretty sure what it will be: hot & bothered people, and no earthquakes except those in the pants.

while i clearly support the idea of cleavage showing, the idea was faulty at it’s inception: there’s a major quake (6-6.9 magnitude) every couple of days and 5/6 quakes daily of ~5 magnitude so there was a good chance that her idea would turn against her ;)

The problem with this test is that the hypothesis is that boobs cause earthquakes indirectly through the promotion of adultery, which can reasonably be assumed to have a significant time lag. The only way to conclusively (dis)prove this causal chain is to break it down into its component interactions. Starting with the organisation of a mass-action day of adultery.
