newuniversal: 1959
Written by KIERON GILLEN

This is a story about killing the future. 1959 is the dawn of the new age of superheroics — the so-called “Fireworks” have granted superhuman powers to three Americans, and set the world on a collision-course with destiny. But it’s a destiny Philip Voight must prevent at any cost. The first newuniversal one-shot expands the mythos of this world, thanks to writer KIERON GILLEN (Phonogram), hand-picked by newuniversal’s Warren Ellis, and the brilliant art of GREG SCOTT shows us the world, like it never was…in 1959.
48 PGS./Parental Advisory …$3.99
Released July 2008

[...] Over at Warren Ellis’ site, the man himself posted a blurb for an upcoming newuniversal title, newuniversal: 1959. This one-shot is due for release in July and unfortunately is not written by Ellis himself (although he chose the writer). I loved newuniversal, and the trade paperback ended on a mid-season note, so I’m anxiously looking forward to a continuation. While the new 1959 one-shot doesn’t appear to directly continue the series, it does delve into the mythology and expands upon an event mentioned during the first series, namely the "Fireworks," which appears to be a previous White Event. Warren Ellis is the new kingmaker for the next generation of British comic creators.
This can lead to nothing but good things.
And drunken yelling matches.
“Come with me
Like a little child,
Like another gun,
Like homeless, restless, known to none,
Like way beyond the line,
Like it never was
In 1959…”
256…hmmm
Somehow failed to make that particular connexion
and I’m a huge Sisters fan.
(the question is, does that particular connexion
actually apply?)
