In Case My American Readers Weren’t Yet Sure Who The Enemy Is

February 16th, 2007 | researchmaterial

John McCain soon to be caught telling Asian-American children that he “fucked gooks like your daddy right in the gall bladder, back in ‘Nam.” But first…

…on February 23, Sen. John McCain (R-AZ) will be the keynote speaker for the most prominent creationism advocacy group in (America). The Discovery Institute, a religious right think-tank, is well-known for its strong opposition to evolutionary biology and its advocacy for “intelligent design.” The institute’s main financial backer, savings and loan heir Howard Ahmanson, spent 20 years on the board of the Chalcedon Foundation, “a theocratic outfit that advocates the replacement of American civil law with biblical law.”

It’s interesting, watching these early shuffles for position. Mitt Romney slid right of Republican-moderate while Governor, Brownback has a Christian network underpinning him, and Rudy Guiliani has law-and-order cred and the “America’s Mayor” bullshit behind him: McCain, who knows this is his last chance and is all but visibly drooling for it, is obviously being told to push hard-right to isolate Guiliani. Which apparently means doing a monkey dance for creationists, sucking off Jerry Falwell, getting into bed with Project for the New American Century and proposing bills banning use of the Internet unless under armed guard with a dog’s head up your bum.

Seriously. Next to sumo, this is the greatest spectator sport on earth.

  1. Of course you enjoy it, you don’t have to live with the results for 4 years (or more) like we do.

  2. We’re still trying to convince Prince Frederic Von Anhalt to run as a Dixiecrat.

  3. I’m thoroughly convinced the right in this country are trying to do away with our Republic and install a Monarchy. A Republic/Democracy doesn’t cater well to religions and capitalisms.

  4. thanks for making me go to bed nauseous, batballs wasn’t enough?

  5. Thanks for the scoop.

If you ever doubt the real aims of The Discovery Institute, google for “wedge document” or “wedge strategy.”

  6. Sadly, Matt, we auslanders do have to deal with the consequences. Not as directly as you, but in this globalised world of ours, the shit gets on our shoes too. Which is why American elections have become the global spectacle they are.

  7. Don’t be mean to John McCain! He’s whoring himself out the hardest he can!
He clearly learned his lesson from his last presidential bid- the fundamentalists will stoop to the most vile slurs to win. He saw how successful their slanderous attacks were, and he knows he needs them on his side to have a hope of winning.
Install a Monarchy? Heck, they’re open about wanting a Theocracy. They seem so ignorant of history that they don’t realize that theocracies are actually bad for freedom of religious expression in general.

  8. Intelligent Design is *not* the same as Creationism. If those who level the accusation that they /are/ equivalent had undertaken the most basic of research, they would know that most mainstream Creationist organisations are critical of ID because ID makes no attempt to identify the designer and says nothing about a creation event. As such ID can be co-opted by any agency from Islam to proponents of Panspermia.

  9. “They seem so ignorant of history that they don’t realize that theocracies are actually bad for freedom of religious expression in general.”

As if they give a crap about freedom of religious expression. They don’t even give two shits about Christianity except that it helps them score a few misguided votes.

  10. “Intelligent Design is *not* the same as Creationism…because ID makes no attempt to identify the designer…”

    Erm…bullshit.

William Dempski, one of the main proponents of ID has said that:

“Intelligent design is just the Logos theology of John’s Gospel restated in the idiom of information theory,”

Moreover, the Wedge Document specifically states that it’s goal is to:

“reverse the stifling materialist world view and replace it with a science consonant with Christian and theistic convictions”.

Finally, in the judgement on Kitzmiller v. Dover, Judge Jones ruled:

“The evidence at trial demonstrates that ID is nothing less than the progeny of creationism”.

    Your move, Rommel.

  11. “a science consonant with Christian and theistic convictions”? There´s no such thing since Aristotle.
And ID is what people say when they don’t understand evolution very well.

  12. >>Seriously. Next to sumo, this is the greatest spectator sport on earth.

except that the winner gets the access code to the nuclear football. i’d be cool with a sumo wrestler getting those codes, but giuliani?

  13. Matt, America being what it is [the closest we have today to a vast Empire], the shockwaves of the ellection hit the whole Planet as a Shitsunami. moreso if you’re a freelance paid in American Dollars or the 3rd World country you live in is a playground for big financial speculators.

  14. Let me be the first to say “What a fucking douchecock”

  15. (different Matt from OP)

“Shitsunami”. You know, I may be behind the curve not having heard that word before, but I think I’ve got a new word of the day…
And yeah, McCain’s just about used up all his good will with me. I wonder which one is the act: his previous routine as a reasonable man, or this one as the sycophantic old warmonger.

  16. Ah, well, he’s no Bush, but what the hell… let’s crucify the bastard.

  17. It’s just sad. I actually had some respect for this guy at one point. This is no way for someone to become president, so he’ll probably win.

  18. “Shitsunami” and “douchecock” will be my words for the weekend, thanks. And while I’m here… we have seen the enemy, and it is the “Christian” Right. These fuckers corrupt everything they touch. That McCain would reach out to him says everything you need to know about him. Same for Brownback and Romney. Now if only the Dems could find someone with charisma that the CR can’t accuse of being a terrorist….

  19. “if only the Dems could find someone with charisma that the CR can’t accuse of being a terrorist”
Since the Republicans have already accused the entire Democratic part of being on the side of the terrorists, that doesn’t leave many options.

“Intelligent Design is *not* the same as Creationism…because ID makes no attempt to identify the designer…”
Yeah, it works with any omnipotent, omniscient creator. Oh, wait… Of course, the ID proponents have one specific omnipotent, omniscient creator in mind, but they’re too coy to come out and say it.

  20. It gets worse. McCain’s going to spend tomorrow night telling 1500 South Carolina teens to abstain from sex before marriage:

    http://americablog.blogspot.com/2007/02/forget-iraq-mccain-wants-to-be-anti-sex.html

I can’t even get angry about it; it’s just pitiable. Even Bob Dole went out with more dignity than this.

  21. And it’s not often you see “Bob Dole” and “dignity” in the same sentence.

  22. Honestly I have to say i’m not suprised at any of this at all.

  23. It’s too bad Jose Luis de Jesus Miranda is Puerto Rican. I’d support his candiacy for prez:
MIAMI, Florida (CNN) — The minister has the number 666 tattooed on his arm.

But Jose Luis de Jesus Miranda is not your typical minister. De Jesus, or “Daddy” as his thousands of followers call him, does not merely pray to God: He says he is God.

“The spirit that is in me is the same spirit that was in Jesus of Nazareth,” de Jesus says
