  1. Mike Mike

    That is astounding.

I take it the guy didn’t get the gig?

  2. Haha, excellent. Long live Batman, indeed.

  3. Forget drawing a Vertigo book–this guy is LIVING in a Vertigo book.

  4. Long live the Batman.

  5. Andy Andy

The writing could use work, but the mind behind it seems like it could have been a solid part of the nineties scene.

  6. Alsofish Alsofish

Oh, Wisconsin. How glad I am to have eeled my way out of your blood-blackened claws.

  7. Hell, Warren, what sort of people you expected to attract with those “CONAN! WHAT’S BEST IN LIFE?” links?

But, seriously, this is almost too insane to be real, it wouldn’t surprise me if it was a prank letter…

  8. Damin J. Toell Damin J. Toell

And the author of that letter was John Cassaday.

  9. Jorge Jorge

Whatever it is, real or not or something in the middle, this letter just made my day.

What a piece of art !

  10. This is insane. The RANT is beautiful. The really sick part is that I could read more from this guy.

  11. Angela Angela

I greatly desire to see the “art” he included.

  12. Leebob Leebob

  13. America: If you can dream it you can DO IT!

  14. so, this is Mark Millar’s early work, then?

    Give ‘im the contract!

  18. Ales Kot Ales Kot

    Wow, crystal meth reigns.

  19. Okay, the point I was trying to get across in the letter was …

  20. I would hire this man to write this letter over and over again, this is by far one of the funniest pieces of literature I have read in a long fucking time- case in point ” Redneck fucking cripple vigilante dead heads “

  21. Liam Liam

Wow, bat shit crazy, and has a good grasp of grammar, spelling and punctuation. except for a few dropped capitals in the last para, this’d get an A+ in yr 11 English.

  22. kgalen kgalen

D’oh! I live in Wisconsin and personally love it here. I think I’d rather have all those serial killers as our representative to the world than this guy. Good grief, what a loon.

  23. Jay Jay

Holy hell this is easily one of the funniest things I’ve ever read. The only thing I need now is an artistic rendering of this insane individual

  24. fod_xp fod_xp

    Wow, that’s just fucked…like…damn.

It’s shit like this that makes me loathe myself and the human species in general.

  25. JS JS

This should be turned into a meme immediately.

    Long live the Batman

  26. Been drunk for three years? You mean you were an alcoholic at 19? I don’t mean this to be sarcastic at all: Fuck, you rock!

Can I just say that if I were Karen Berger or Dan Didio I would hire this guy on the spot?

  27. simon simon

mmmmm _ I honestly think the poor guy was trying to make his letter part of his synopsis – does that make sense? Maybe he was ‘in character’ and submitted the letter as a way of demonstrating his incredible talents as a story teller – maybe . . . ish . . . mmmmm.

. . . . or he was just completely insane.

  28. Anxst Anxst

Hey, I live in Wisconsin. Where’s this crazy scene this guy describes? Despite my younger years being spent as the manager at a gas station in Sheboygan right next to the Outlaws (biker gang) clubhouse and their constant meth selling, I never saw anything like this guy describes.

I want to go to his crazy Wisconsin. Just to check it out. Then I’ll go back home.

    Long live the Batman.

  29. hng23 hng23

    I’d buy his comic.

  30. philfromgermany philfromgermany

I’d totally buy this, kinda like Scalped outside of the Rez, don’t you think?
Anyway, I like the bands he mentions, specially the Beasties. Anyone here have idea which Green Arrow comics he refers to when mentioning them?

  31. Today he has a senior position on a Tory Party think-tank.

  32. Chroma Chroma

    But can he draw?

  33. I thought it was a pitch for a story and he was just getting in character for it. That never really materialized. I wouldn’t be surprised if this was somebody’s idea of a joke.

  34. cavalaxis cavalaxis

    “Tomahawk hellbillies.”

    Flashes of brilliance.

    Long live the Batman, indeed.

  35. But did you read his work? was it good? because he is such a character!

Long live the Batman! hell yeah!

  36. Seth Seth

    Gibby Haynes? Is that you?

  37. So that’s how Jeph Loeb got the job.

  38. Mymeridon Mymeridon

Hell is in the mind. Not Wisconsin. Illinois maybe.

  39. Vex Godglove Vex Godglove

I would totally read a series written by this guy. This is amazing. At the very least he should have a blog, or even better would be an AM radio show.
