not 5 minutes before reading this, i was telling a friend how rad it would be to type with my brain.
you see, my keyboard doesn’t fit on my desk and i always have it resting on my lap and sometimes i’m just too lazy to pick it up.

  2. Raymond Z. Gallun wrote this bleak, nasty story about a heroic evolved crow trying to warn degenerate future humans about invading alien spores.

Don’t know if you’ve seen this already, but I thought it might be up your alley: http://www.newscientist.com/article.ns?id=mg18524823.800

    “Pentagon reveals rejected chemical weapons”

‘Most bizarre among the plans was one for the development of an “aphrodisiac” chemical weapon that would make enemy soldiers sexually irresistible to each other. Provoking widespread homosexual behaviour among troops would cause a “distasteful but completely non-lethal” blow to morale, the proposal says.’

beaten with a dead baby chihuahua…perhaps it was a Pound Puppy?

I found it interesting that the chihuahua story starts off with more or less the same set-up as Monty Python’s “dead parrot sketch,” but turns into blackly comedic slapstick instead. I blame the influence of “America’s Funniest Home Videos.”

I’m enjoying how research into crows is destroying some cherished notions of human “specialness.” It used to be orthodoxy that humans were unlike any other animal because of our language and tool use. Other animals were discovered to have language with syntax. Chimpanzees have demonstrated crude tool use, but crows have shown sophisticated tool-creating behavior that would be beyond the abilities of some human children. We’re left with the idea that humans have an order of consciousness that other animals don’t have, but even that’s questionable.

I saw a video of that crow. bloody amazing stuff.

humans really are not better or worse than any other animal, and i for one have never believed we were really alone in any of our abilities.
