Dirty Beaches

The lovely people at Fixture Records gave me a listen to the album HORROR by Dirty Beaches, another mad scientist opening up holes into alternate histories. Grainy nightmare drones and clanks creeping out of a radio tuned to somewhere we’re not supposed to know about. On "In Dreams," you can hear other frequencies spilling over into it, and can begin to imagine a wrong time where this sort of dissociating, pulsing noise actually emanates from car stereos and in-store sound systems. This is one of the great powers of music, for me — it activates the imagination.
