Tony Wilson’s Dead

August 11th, 2007 | brainjuice

BBC: “Anthony Wilson, the music mogul behind some of Manchester’s most successful bands, has died of cancer.”

I guess the massively-overdue “critical re-evaluation” will now arrive soon. Starting, one imagines, with (even though dressed as a 70s hippie leftover) naming a television music show after a Kurt Vonnegut line and putting the Sex Pistols on TV for the first time. He was a field of chaos — he looked to many to be always one step behind, but he was always looking one step ahead, he looked to most to be making a fortune, but he never really made a penny. He was hated by a lot of people, but British music wouldn’t have been the same without him.

Time for a drink.
