  • CERN physicists trap antihydrogen atoms for more than 16 minutes
"Antimatter is a puzzle because it should have been produced in equal amounts with normal matter during the Big Bang that created the universe 13.6 billion years ago. Today, however, there is no evidence of antimatter galaxies or clouds, and antimatter is seen rarely and for only short periods, for example during some types of radioactive decay before it annihilates in a collision with normal matter."

  • CASSINI MISSION on Vimeo
"The footage in this little film was captured by the hardworking men and women at NASA with the Cassini Imaging Science System." This is amazing. There's the germs of whole new aesthetics in here. (crossref: video glitch)

June 3rd, 2011 | shivering sands

I must say, it was lovely to have been able to sign five or six of these at MCM Expo last week.  Still avalable, of course.

(I’ve just noticed that lots of people have been very kind about it at Goodreads. Thank you.)

Judge Dredd Megazine Leaks The SVK Cover

June 3rd, 2011 | Work

Sort of.

This is the June 2011 issue, out now, and, as you can see, it features a lengthy interview with my old mate and SVK artist, D’Israeli, aka the sainted Matt Brooker and one of my most trusted collaborators.

Si Spurrier, New Whitechapel Barman

June 2nd, 2011 | Work

FREAKANGELS concludes in ten or eleven weeks or so.  People have asked what will happen to the FREAKANGELS online community, Whitechapel, at that time.

Si Spurrier, writer of Avatar Press’ next webcomic CROSSED: WISH YOU WERE HERE, arrived today at Whitechapel to begin the handover to the new regime.

  • Whole grape – seed and skin – may be perfect colon cancer fighting food
"Although researchers have known that resveratrol, a compound in grape skin, and compounds in grape seed extract may prevent colon cancer cells from growing, scientists have not known how the two compounds work together. CSU’s study shows that the compounds must work together — making the whole, seeded red or purple grape a perfect colon-cancer fighting food."

Why I Love Katie West

June 2nd, 2011 | people I know

Found this on her Tumblr this morning, wanted to save and share it:

  1. You said you don’t really read comics, but have you read Transmetropolitan and/or do you read Freakangels? I know you’re pals with Warren Ellis, and Transmet is how I got into comics in the first place.

Transmetropolitan is one of the few comics I have read. It was the first comic I ever read, too.

I was at a boy’s house, and I really liked the boy, and the boy liked me. And we were in his room, and he said, “Here, read this.” And it was I Hate It Here. And I read it, and the boy was trying to kiss me, and I was like, no, I’m busy! Reading this! Reading this amazing piece of literature that I didn’t know could even exist. Have comics always been this great? Are there more like this? Who is this Warren Ellis? Does he write other things? And the boy was like, so we can’t make out anymore? And I was like, to the comics shop!

So, yeah. That’s how that happened.
