Which she actually writes for, too. But they let her actually go on stage and frighten people, the other night. She’s a monstrous human being, but god help me she makes me laugh.

Whooshing Sound

March 30th, 2010 | daybook

The next 48-72 hours are deadline-intensive horrors. Wrapping up three major projects. I fully expect to be walking toasted vegetation by Friday.

Due to lots of people whining at me, I’ve set up an Official Warren Ellis Compound on that Facebook thing I hate. I’ve sterilised my personal page there, so this will be the page to find me on the Facebook thing I hate. It’s bare-bones right now, due to being in deadline lockdown, but soonishly Ariana and I will start piping stuff in there to make it mostly self-supporting.

(It also means that I don’t really have to use the Facebook, which I hate.)

Many things floating in head. I want to do more with print-on-demand. I also have a bunch of notebook pages on comics design that I’m ruminating on in my hahaha spare time. And I think I might have finally broken ground on a new novel to replace the lost-in-absurd-computer-death LISTENER.

Onward.

"Lulu, and in fact any manufacturing process hooked up to the internet, has made the creation of physical things really rather simple. If you can think of it, you can probably get it made to your own designs in a way that used to be limited to specialised craftspeople ? what I call the Internet as Cornucopia Machine. Real things in the real world have a different (different, not +ve or -ve) value to digital assets, and have a different capacity to surprise and delight. And physical instantiations of the digital can be both archives and souvenirs (you can?t really have digital souvenirs ? a thought I?m going to unpack a bit more at a later date)…"

John Twells put me on to this. Tristram Cary was an interesting man. Looking forward to putting it on tonight. (More electronic music, yes: imagine him as parallel to the Radiophonic Workshop, maybe (he did also produce incidental music for DOCTOR WHO) – and in fact created equipment the Workshop would later use.)

T-shirt Of The Week 016: COCKTAIL RECIPE

March 29th, 2010 | Work

TOTW is basically a joke that Ariana and I pull each week in our joint guise as the International Electrophonic Unit. Basically, we take some of the stupider things I’ve said on Twitter and elsewhere, often in a state of extreme alcoholic refreshment or severe sleep deprivation, and put them on a t-shirt. Ariana set up a Cafe Press store (because this is a joke and engaging with a serious maker of t-shirts would be less funny to us), and… well, once a week, here we are.

Through this website and this Cafe Press store, we’re going to release one t-shirt a week. It’ll go live on Monday… and it’ll die Sunday night — midnight UK time, more often than not. Each one lives for a week, and then it’s replaced by the next week’s shirt. Until I either run out of dumb ideas or Ariana’s brain explodes.

So, every Monday, I’ll post the new shirt here, and you can peer at it more at http://www.cafepress.com/electrophonic.

Anyway. I present to you T-Shirt Of The Week #016: COCKTAIL RECIPE:

We also offer several perennial items, including the new BRAIN BLEACH mug:

(And also a MAN COOK MEAT WITH FIRE "splatter-shield", because Ariana’s crazy)

CROOKED LITTLE VEIN Lettered Special Edition At 75% Off

March 29th, 2010 | Work

Just noticed this. I did a special limited edition of CROOKED LITTLE VEIN with Subterranean Press, sporting a frankly brilliant photo cover by Clayton Cubitt. The edition did sell out, I was told. And then, this:

Tim’s been into the bowels of SubPress storage again, and come out with a goodly number of copies of the Signed Lettered Edition of Warren Ellis’s novel, Crooked Little Vein.

There’s one hitch, however, which is why the books have been packed away for a good long while. When they were getting ready to send books out to customers, our shippers accidentally numbered the lettered copies. These lettered copies (at $100, a good $300 off the original price of $400) have the incorrect number on the signature page crossed out, and the proper letter written in. They’re perfect in all other ways, so are a bargain for Ellis fans wanting the most limited state the novel.

Here’s the link.
